‘Please, don't use Wikipedia when doing research. Go to the library instead!’ For years, secondary school teachers have had to discourage the use of one of the most valuable resources available in the world, in order to remind students how to conduct studies and research using the correct method, and to protect them from the misinformation that can be hidden within a database of information managed by other users.
However, the foundation responsible for the accuracy and maintenance of this platform, which is always free and up to date, has contributed for years to the improvement of Wikipedia, making it increasingly reliable in the face of the immense amount of incorrect information available online. In 2025, sadly, the Wikimedia Foundation is asking for help.
Following the introduction of artificial intelligence and, above all, the online results assisted by it, “human” user traffic within Wikipedia has become increasingly rare. The lack of human presence is a considerable risk, especially when considering the long-term effect, and the preferred use of chatbots, trained on the platform's own articles, seems like yet another mockery of those who have always fought for free access to information.
