The state of Andhra Pradesh in southern India will soon become the site of the next data centre dedicated to artificial intelligence, as Google's parent company, Alphabet, will invest £10 billion to build the facility. The port city of Visakhapatnam will host the latter and become an integral part of Google's global network of AI centres spread across 12 countries.

The investment will take place over the next five years, according to Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian, and will fund the world's largest artificial intelligence hub outside the United States. India has recently positioned itself as an ideal destination for such projects, thanks to low data costs and rapid growth in its internet user base, making it a paradise on earth for tech giants.

Nara Lokesh, the state's technology minister, said that the construction of such a hub is a huge step forward for India's digital future, innovation and global position.
