In mid-September, Collins Aerospace, known as a supplier of boarding and check-in management systems for various airlines around the world, was the victim of a cyberattack that caused delays and considerable disruption at several European airports.
According to an analysis conducted the day after the attack, the breach rendered the automated systems completely unusable, forcing staff at the affected airports to fall back on manual check-in and boarding procedures. Most flights were delayed by at least an hour, while many others were canceled.
Heathrow, Brussels, and Berlin were the three airports most affected, while Zurich and Frankfurt remained unscathed. As for airlines, EasyJet encountered no problems, Ryanair did not issue any statement, and Delta Airlines said it worked to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.
