In June 2025, Netflix added an animated film to its catalogue that quickly went viral around the world. K-Pop Demon Hunters achieved unprecedented levels of fame, becoming the most viewed title on the entire streaming platform, surpassing 266 million views in just three months. The quality of the animation and the music in it made this work much more than just a ‘film about K-Pop’.
Recently, however, a rather unusual rumour has spread which, if confirmed, could cast an unpleasant light on the film's music production. According to a tweet by an OpenAI employee during a company event, the composer of “Soda Pop”, a song featured in the film, said he used ChatGPT in the production of the title in question.
The post was used as a source for several articles, both in the South Korean and US press, despite being incorrect. The composer had shared the use of AI in the K-Pop music industry, usually to find inspiration, without specifically mentioning its implementation in the creative process of “Soda Pop”. To clarify the whole matter, the team then released an official announcement stating that AI was not used in the production of the film.
