The Italian government is further tightening its grip on the entire hidden industry of piracy. According to a recent bill proposal, penalties for those who still engage in this illegal activity, downloading audiovisual content protected by copyright, could soon become much more severe. The proposal will be discussed in September and is presented as an update to the better-known “legge anti-pezzotto” of 2023.

The current fine for this type of offense ranges from approximately €150 to a maximum of €5,000; following the proposal in question, the minimum amount would be approximately €500, reaching over €16,000 in more serious cases. The economic crackdown is intended as a strict deterrent to this increasingly widespread crime, which is also becoming easier to commit.

In addition to the above, the proposal provides for the confiscation of the material used and the publication of the news in national magazines and newspapers.
