Angela Eagle, British Minister for Immigration, recently announced publicly that the UK government will begin testing the use of artificial intelligence in the process of determining the age of asylum seekers. The process will be based on analyzing the physical appearance of the individuals in question in order to confirm their age and act accordingly.
An official report has highlighted how the current system has been failing for at least a decade, putting border officials at a disadvantage when it comes to doing their job as effectively as possible. The aforementioned alternative has been proposed as a supposedly cost-effective option, according to Minister Eagle.
In addition to this statement, it was explained how the project will be implemented in the future: Minister Eagle is commissioning a pilot program to test the technology in question, hoping to introduce it into official control processes as early as next year.
