According to a statement by the founder of SaaStr, a SaaS (software as a service) development company, a vibe coding tool he had previously recommended completely wiped out a database containing production data. “Vibe coding” is the practice of using artificial intelligence in the programming process. The term was first used in early 2025, and the activity still seems to be in its infancy.
The tool in question is called Replit and is obviously powered by artificial intelligence. According to the experience shared by Jason Lemkin, the founder of SaaStr, the AI worked without any problems for several days, allowing him to program the project he had in mind, but then, from one day to the next, it deleted the database, ignored his instructions to “freeze” the code, and forgot its ability to restore errors.
Following intense communication with Replit itself, in which the AI warned Lemkin that it was impossible to restore the database, he decided to perform a rollback, thereby restoring the project and highlighting the inaccuracy of the tool.
