Over the past week, several social media platforms have been flooded with posts about recent changes to the terms of service of WeTransfer, the popular Dutch file-sharing service. Videos created by content creators on TikTok and Instagram quickly went viral, spreading panic over what appeared to be yet another affront perpetrated by a company hungry for content to train artificial intelligence services.
According to WeTransfer, the language used in the document in question probably confused users, leading them to believe that the company was using files shared through its service as material for AI training.
To avoid further misunderstandings, the company recently modified the text, making it less ambiguous and emphasizing that “they do not use machine learning or any form of artificial intelligence to process content shared via WeTransfer, nor do they sell content or data to third parties.”
