The Japanese animation studio A-1 Pictures, a subsidiary of Aniplex and part of Sony Music Entertainment Japan, has always been an unrelenting source of content particularly appreciated by nerdy audiences. It reached the pinnacle of fame in 2022 with the release of one of the most eagerly awaited fan productions, the official animation of the Korean webtoon Solo Leveling.

The anime immediately achieved a fair amount of success, supported by the online phenomenon of the original webtoon, bringing the studio responsible for the project to the lips of everyone. However, despite Solo Leveling's impressive fame, according to the official Japanese bulletin, A-1 Pictures recently posted a net loss of 178 billion yen for fiscal year 2024-2025.

According to the studio's track record, therefore, producing the most-watched anime on Crunchyroll, a truly unprecedented success, does not necessarily translate into a stable and positive situation for the creators of the subject matter in question. Although A-1 Pictures has not yet issued any official statement, according to some industry experts, the studio may be facing financial difficulties due to rising production costs.
