Today's reference article is somewhat different from our usual content. The online news outlet 404Media recently conducted an investigation regarding the impact of artificial intelligence, and especially Large Language Models (LLMs), on the entire environment dedicated to education. In an attempt to shed some light on the current situation, we thought we would offer you this somewhat personal viewpoint, based on the experiences of several education professionals.

Artificial intelligence, as mentioned several times in the past, can be a valuable tool if used in the right way. Unfortunately, due to the uncontrolled spread of this technology, it is now seen as a shortcut, a method of avoiding uncomfortable labors. Today's conception of “labors,” however, seems to encompass any task that requires a minimum of mental effort - from drafting a text to creating a summary.

Part of the teaching process present in schools, from primary to university, is based on building students' critical thinking, subjected to various exercises aimed at training this skill. The requirement to read, reflect, write, and discuss ideas is not a method of keeping precious hours of one's neighbor's life occupied, but rather a series of necessary steps to be able to develop fundamental life skills. AI is taking this possibility away.
