For months now, the United Kingdom seems to have been in a rather uncomfortable impasse, an unpleasant situation seemingly lacking clear ways out, compromises that could reconcile the desires of different parties. The British government is quite adamant about its intention to introduce a rule that would allow companies to use copyrighted materials to train AI models, while the House of Lords is standing firm in its decision to reject the amendment in question.
What the government is proposing would directly threaten billions of works by artists of various kinds who are in constant apprehension as they attempt to protect their life's work. Sir Elton John, Sir Paul McCartney and Dua Lipa are just a few of the countless artists involved in this unfortunate situation. United in the face of it, however, the creative group has succeeded in its intent to raise awareness among those in charge of the current state of affairs.
Members of the House of Lords, in fact, seemed more inclined to reject the amendment as a result of the appeal made by the artists mentioned above.
