Craig Peters, CEO of Getty Images, a world-famous U.S. photo agency, recently stated that the company is “spending millions of dollars” in a lawsuit against one of the most influential AI image generators currently on the tech scene.

Stability AI, as well as many other models that offer image generation services, repeatedly use copyrighted material, but without being in possession of any permission from the original authors. Competition within the photography market can be healthy and spur the industry, but not if it involves unfair productions, outright theft of others' work.

The complaint is currently underway in both the United Kingdom and the United States of America, given the different backgrounds of the two protagonists in the case. According to the allegation made by Getty Images, Stability AI allegedly copied 12 million images without any permission or proposal for compensation, simply to benefit the company's economy.
