Sir Keir Starmer, current Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, recently received an urgent letter signed by more than 400 creative people, including British musicians, artists and writers. Within the latter, representatives of the nation's arts industry stressed the critical importance of timely action against the liberties taken by artificial intelligence.

The group formally called for a thorough update of the current Copyright Act, so as to be protected from the hegemonic foibles that AI tech companies have been engaging in recently. Without precise protection, the hard-earned work of hundreds of artists would be unfairly used to train AI models, without any kind of need for permission or compensation to the original creators.

The premier has been asked to support a dedicated amendment to the Data (Use and Access) Bill, according to which developers should be transparent in the case of utlilizing the protected material of third parties, such as the artists in question, in training their models.
