The idea of having to connect to the Internet in order to immerse in a multiplayer game is completely normal nowadays. A connection to the vast online world is essential, otherwise it would be impossible to be able to interact with other players. However, when it comes to single-player video games it should not be necessary, as an Internet connection isn't required to be able to play.
Ubisoft, a French multinational company that specializes in the development and production of video games such as Assassin's Creed, Prince of Persia, and Far Cry, on the other hand, forces players to connect to their account in order to play any of their titles. Although interaction with other players is completely optional, the company specifically requires users to log in to their online platform, before opening the game.
This ambiguous specification was only recently noticed, prompting the complaining user to communicate directly with the company. The latter, in response, stated that the connection is only necessary to perform an ownership check of the game. Today's reference article explores this situation.
