Recently, the United Kingdom has been the scene of a somewhat controversial proposal regarding the management of Copyright within the nation. The U.K. government floated the idea of providing blanket permission for AI models to access creative works (novels, articles, artwork and videos), unless the owners take the option to “opt-out” (remove themselves) from the initiative.

The proposal requires AI companies to declare what content was used in the model training phase, however, the process lacks convenience for copyright owners of the works, who are forced to specify their participation, or not, each time.

Following the uproar caused by the proposal, the government is currently devoting itself to appeasing the concerns of the people, focusing, in addition, on assessing the economic impact of the advanced initiative.
