ChatGPT’s viral Studio Ghibli-style images highlight AI copyright concerns.

“I consider this to be an insult to life itself.” Animation master Hayao Miyazaki's opinion about artificial intelligence has always been quite clear, as reflected in this commentary dating back to 2016. From the very beginning, the co-founder of one of the world's most famous animation film studios, Studio Ghibli, has been extremely opposed to the use of this soulless technology within his own industry. 

“I never wish to incorporate this technology into my work. [...] Whoever creates this stuff has no idea what pain is.” Miyazaki's statements sincerely reflect his straightforward, no-nonsense opinion. To allow such technology to deprive humans of the experience of art is an affront to humanity itself; such power should not exist.

ChatGPT recently demonstrated its ability to generate images inspired by the style of the animation studio in question from a simple photograph; the entire Internet world, of course, followed the trend within mere minutes. This misuse of the model, consequently, has further highlighted the serious copyright problems within the AI scene.
