A Slop Publisher Sold a Ripoff of My Book on Amazon

Today's reference article is about the book “Dark Wire,” written by Joseph Cox, a journalist and co-founder of 404 Media, one of the online titles we often refer to for texts presented in this section of the site.

Imagine investing time, money and passion in writing a book, publishing it and putting it up for sale, only to find that someone decided to artificially generate a summary of your work and sell it for about $5. The profound lived experiences, the information gathered through tears and blood, summarized in two incoherent sentences.

“Dark Wire” by Joseph Cox tells the story of the largest espionage operation ever carried out by law enforcement, in which the FBI created a real technological start-up to monitor the entire world. The entire human and psychologically charged aspect of what is reported within the book has been disrespectfully sacrificed, in favor of a quick, impersonal summary. 

Whether this is artificially generated has not yet been confirmed, however, following a notice sent to Amazon, many of the seller's “summarized books” in question have been removed from the platform.
