The vast world of the Internet has confirmed itself over and over again as an immense source of information, an archive of knowledge accessible to anyone who has the chance. However, this vast collection is still free ground for any user, which means that anyone has the opportunity to write what they like, where they like, reporting potentially erroneous and harmful information.
Following the path paved by X, formerly known as Twitter, Meta too has decided to remove the use of fact-checkers, who are responsible for checking that the information reported in posts on a platform is correct. To cope with this removal, however, both companies decided to implement ‘Community Notes’.
These take the form of highlighted comments visible on the post's home screen, are anonymous and allow users to write a short message containing any corrections or warnings regarding the veracity of the original post.
