During the first week of January, renowned data broker Gravy Analytics published a notice detailing a serious data breach responsible for stealing precise location data from millions of people. According to the online news outlet TechCrunch, the incident in question involved data from a variety of different applications, from Candy Crush to dating apps.

Baptiste Robert, CEO of the digital security firm Predicta Lab, published a series of posts to explain the enormous size of this breach. The ‘small’ sample of data taken and published on a Russian forum contained data from tens of millions of data points around the world - including places like the Vatican, the White House and several military bases.

In Gravy Analytics' communication to the Norwegian authorities, the company stated that it had identified an unauthorised access to its AWS storage environment on 4 January.
