Not even the US animation giant is immune to copyright infringement, it seems. Although it is news that usually receives little attention, the studio has been accused of this kind of infringement several times. In this case, the subject in question is the latest film released by the company: ‘Moana 2’.
According to Buck Woodall, an animation scriptwriter, the company allegedly copied the plot of Moana from a script he proposed to the studio in 2003, delivered together with a concept trailer. Within the latter, there are indeed commonalities with Disney's product, such as the setting of an ancient Polynesian village, a symbolic necklace and a secondary character with tattoos and a hook.
Woodall had sued Disney after the release of the first film, but the matter was dismissed for lack of relevant evidence. Considering the development of the story in the sequel, the screenwriter tried again.
