The East Yorkshire area in England seems to be a perfect example of how the implementation of artificial intelligence in the medical field can benefit the industry. The city of Hull, in March 2023, proposed the use of an application aimed at symptom control for patients suffering from chronic respiratory diseases, run by Lenus, a chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) support system.

According to data collected by the Humber Health Partnership, there has been a 40%  reduction in the number of patients having to return to hospital for treatment following the introduction of this method. Lenus hopes to further reduce this figure, ideally by up to 90%, through the implementation of AI technology to analyse the data entered into the app.

Within the app, patients have the option of contacting the NHS directly if they have any concerns, as well as being politely prompted to record their symptoms through questions regarding their wellbeing.
