While Italy grapples with new laws implemented in the traffic code, the state of New York seems to be struggling with excessive surveillance on its streets. The city in question is plastered with traffic cameras, placed in plain sight on every corner, intersection or lamppost.

To make the general public aware of this disproportionate control, US artist Morry Kolman thought of using a peculiar approach: turning these cameras into potential photobooths for taking selfies. The project is available on the website ‘trafficcamphotoboot.com’, a platform on which it is possible to see an exhaustive map of the cameras in the city of New York, to then go there and take pictures with them.

However, Kolman's ‘improper’ use attracted the attention of the New York City Department of Transportation, which sent him a cease and desist letter, strongly urging him to suspend the project.
