The fight between the United States of America and the famous Tiktok platform has been going on for years now; the US Appeals Court has been responsible for several proposals regarding a possible removal of the application from the state, supported by the government itself, however, no proper solution has yet been reached so far.

The conflict stems from the origin of Tiktok, produced by the Chinese company Bytedance. The US government regards China as a ‘hybrid commercial threat to state security’ - considering the positions of the two protagonists in the affair, therefore, a law was recently passed forcing Bytedance to sell its assets to a non-Chinese company or be banned from the country altogether.

The deadline for this is 19 January, date by which the company responsible for the Tiktok phenomenon will have to make a rather complex decision. According to a Bytedance spokesman, the divestment ‘is not possible from a technological, commercial or legal point of view’.
