An investigation was recently opened against Carmelo Miano, a Roman hacker from the Garbatella area. Thanks to the investigations promptly launched by the Guardia di Finanza, which stemmed from an exchange of information between the young hacker and drug traffickers - involving cryptocurrency exchange platforms such as Kraken and Coinbase - several surprising truths have come to light.
According to reports, the man managed communications within the dark web, aimed at the illicit buying and selling of drugs, collecting the profits in the form of cryptocurrencies. The latter amounted to approximately EUR 6.2 million.
During the investigation, it was also discovered that the man had managed to gain access to databases containing sensitive data, belonging to public organisations such as the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Finance - in addition, Miano also had access to the computer systems of several law enforcement agencies.
