The role of the police report is of fundamental importance for any institution and individual involved in an incident presented to the authorities. In the text of the report, in fact, every aspect of the experience of the protagonists of the alleged event is recorded, thus enabling anyone reading it to understand what happened.
Report writing, however, requires considerable effort on the part of the staff, both mentally and in terms of time. To facilitate the work of the officers, therefore, the US company Axon, a leader in the field of body cameras and tasers, has recently introduced AI software aimed at supporting the writing of this document.
Draft One, the software in question, was created to help agents produce more objective reports in less time. The release of this support, however, brings to light a rather understandable doubt: are we giving AI too big a role within the criminal justice system?
