Cheyenne, the capital of the US state of Wyoming, recently had a rather peculiar experience. Earlier this year, a man named Victor Miller proposed his candidacy for mayor of the city, accompanied by a rather unusual assistant: a chatbot.

More precisely, the AI in question is called ‘Vic’ (Virtual Integrated Citizen) and is a customised version of the ChatGPT bot. Within this particular form of government, the role of this technology would be to provide data-driven insights and innovative solutions for the city - its human counterpart, Miller, would fill the rest of the responsibilities.

Following his defeat in the election, Victor Miller stated that the intent of his campaign was to provide voters with the opportunity to choose an innovative form of government in which AI would make 100 per cent of the decisions - unlike previously understood. Concluding his recall speech, the man declared that ‘the seeds of a revolution in governance have been planted and are already beginning to sprout’.
