Within the world of artificial intelligence, copying the works of others seems to be an everyday occurrence. Copyright violations for artworks used as "training" material for AI models are only the beginning; some softwares generate content that is almost completely identical to the source.

Figma, more specifically, is not an artificial intelligence but a collaborative web application for interface and user-experience design; it places great emphasis on real-time collaboration and uses a variety of vector graphics editors. It also recently introduced an AI feature called "Make Design," aimed at generating layouts for UI (user interface).

Andy Allen, founder of NotBoring Software, noticed the problem while testing Figma's tool. Wanting to generate a UI for a dedicated weather app, he found that Make Design repeatedly mimicked Apple's weather app when used as a design aid.
