The New York Times, a famous US newspaper, recently sued two giant companies that have been in the spotlight again and again over the past year. The lawsuit sees OpenAI, owner of ChatGPT, and Microsoft, as parties to be held liable for billions of dollars in damages.

As repeatedly stated, OpenAi used, and uses, several sources of information to train its artificial intelligence models - more specifically, ChatGPT. The New York Times, in fact, alleges that the companies have infringed copyright on the content produced by the newspaper by disproportionately using it to train the AI.

As evidence, the newspaper showed that ChatGPT, when asked to create content about current events, generates literal excerpts of New York Times articles, which cannot be accessed without paying a subscription fee.
