The use of artificial intelligence in politics is not exactly new; whether it is politicians preparing their election campaign from prison, or fake videos documenting speeches by heads of state that never took place, this new technology has often been the talk of the town.

More precisely, the technology considered in the article in question sees deepfakes as the protagonist: it is a technique for image manipulation, used to superimpose existing videos with original videos by means of a machine learning technique.

Former Justice Secretary Sir Robert Buckland recently reiterated the urgency of measures to crack down on the use of this technology, emphasising the very serious impact it could have on the next British general election, to be held in 2025.
