The year 2023 has repeatedly seen attempts to register Copyright protection on works completely, or partially, produced through artificial intelligence. The most famous example is undoubtedly the comic book "Zarya of the Dawn" by artist Kris Kashtanova, which came under the spotlight during the first months of the current year due to the application for Copyright registration on the entire work, whose images were, however, generated by Midjourney.

During the year, the U.S. Copyright Office's Review Committee confirmed the rejection of other artificially generated works - "A Recent Entrance to Paradise" by Dr. Stephen Thaler and "Théâtre D'opéra Spatial" by Jason Michael Allen.

On the 11th of December, the committee rejected the work "SURYAST" by Indian entrepreneur Ankit Sahni, despite the fact that its creative process was different from previously submitted works. To generate SURYAST, Sahni digitally "fused" a personally taken photograph and a world-famous work, Van Gogh's "Starry Night."
