The control that can be exercised over one's neighbor seems to be directly proportional to the development of the technology that can enable it. The Los Angeles Police Department recently purchased a rather controversial software dedicated to mass surveillance.

The software, called WebLoc, was created by the company CobWebs Technologies and allows police to track people using geolocation signals displayed on a map interface.

The company's system currently consists of two platforms: Tangles, a web intelligence platform that allows the user to search the Internet world, from social media to the deep web, and WebLoc itself, a system that provides access to large amounts of location-based data at any specified geographic location.
