During the last months of 2023, the website of the British Library, the UK's national library, was the target of a serious cyber attack. The latter was perpetrated by the ransomware group 'Rhysida', which publicly announced its intention to auction the stolen information.

Subsequent investigations revealed that the attack did not expose the information of the library's customers, but rather that of their employees - including employment contracts and passports from HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC). To be on the safe side, the institution still advised people to change their credentials to access the site.

The group is also behind the recent attacks on the Chilean army, the Portuguese city of Gondomar and the University of the West of Scotland.
