SciMatch's AI, called Ruby, examines the photograph in question to deduce users' personalities and attitudes, then searches the database for potentially compatible profiles. The technology in question, of course, skips right over all the awkward moments typical of first conversations, when both parties are still trying to understand how to approach their interlocutor. For some, this shortcut might be a lifesaver, while others might consider it too "inhuman" to work, understandably.
