Generative AI Is a Disaster, and Companies Don’t Seem to Really Care.

As we have seen recently, big tech companies are currently too busy chasing online trends to pay adequate attention to what they are actually leaving in the hands of their users. Whether it's offensive stickers or chatbots lacking common sense, generative AI is increasingly emerging as a tool with risky potential.

Earlier this month, users of Microsoft Bing's Image Creator, powered by OpenAI's DALL-E, demonstrated that they can easily generate results they shouldn't be able to create. Universally beloved and recognized childhood figures in less than suitable contexts, from Spongebob flying a plane into the World Trade Center, to Mickey Mouse holding an AR-15.

Elon Musk has promptly dismissed the issue, claiming it is a fabrication of journalists; meanwhile, users of 4chan have already begun using the tool in question to generate racist propaganda.
