Chinese artists boycott big social media platform over AI-generated images.

Xiaohongshu, the platform known internationally as "Chinese Instagram," recently attracted media attention because of a controversy that originated during August 2023 and developed subsequently.

Chinese artist Snow Fish accused the platform of using her illustrations to train the platform's proprietary AI model, called "Trik AI" - obviously without any kind of prior authorization. The AI in question specializes in creating images inspired by traditional Chinese art and is still in the experimental stage.

Snow Fish approached the platform, publicly asking for an explanation. Receiving no response whatsoever, both the artist and other users of Xiaohongshu began to fill the social with images bearing the words "No to AI-generated images."
