The Twitter (or X) account of Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of the Ethereum phenomenon, recently fell victim to a hacking attack. The culprits in question immediately used the profile to share a phishing link, promising free NFTs-obviously, Buterin's 5 million followers were enticed by such magnanimity.

The tweet stayed online for about 20 minutes, as the victim's father alerted the Internet people that his son's account had been temporarily compromised, stressing how Vitalik was taking care of fixing the situation as soon as possible. This short time frame was more than enough time for the scam to work.

The hackers managed to steal cryptocurrency tokens, mostly NFT, with an estimated value of $691,000.
