What if we excluded experts from discussions on how the web works?

The Internet situation is getting out of hand, between technical and regulatory aspects. In an attempt to take the reins somewhat, the United Nations proposed in their 'Global Digital Compact' (GDC) the exclusion of technical experts as separate voices in the governance of the Web.

On the one hand understandable, given the impact (and level of lobbying) that Big-Tech is having globally: the levels of misinformation and technological abuse, not to mention the failures of start-ups and web3 projects, are steadily rising.

On the other hand, it is no small problem, because it excludes those non-profit organisations that created the Web and manage its basic functioning, with an awareness of its potential and limitations.

A controversial and dangerous statement, that of the UN in this matter, to which ICANN and other bodies, including APNIC and ARIN, have responded harshly.

It must be added that technology is not always exploited for good. It should perhaps be said, that in the last period it has been abused to a great extent. Instead of completely excluding those who maintain the infrastructure, perhaps, it would be time to create a round table to discuss together what are the best steps to take. The question is how far the parties involved are willing to compromise (SZ)
