Over the past week, the Association of Newspaper Publishers and Editors of Japan, in collaboration with three other industry groups, communicated concern regarding the protective measures to be put in place in the face of the current situation. More specifically, it pointed out that copyright protection is not being adequately considered in the development of generative AI.

The organizations involved took as an example how current generative AI creates content based on the analysis of large amounts of data collected from the Internet without the consent and payment of copyright owners.

Japan's copyright law is more favorable to AI learning than that of other countries, this does not mean that efforts are not being made to prevent others' works from being exploited for the convenience of third parties.
