Valve Corporation, an American video game developer, publisher, and digital distributor, has issued a ban on video games that use AI-generated graphics, with several warning notices sent to those attempting to submit such games for Steam approval.

The company has specified that its measures are not aimed at discouraging users from using AI, but rather to ensure that the AI models used to generate the graphics and artwork included in games are trained solely and exclusively on images already owned by developers.

"The introduction of AI can sometimes make it more difficult to prove that a developer has sufficient rights in the use of AI to create assets, including images, text and music." Valve then adds that the review process for games submitted for approval reflects current copyright laws.
