The National Music Publishers Association (NMPA) has sued the Twitter platform, alleging that the platform has allowed copyright infringement of around 1,700 songs and demanding damages in the sum of more than 250 million dollars.
The NMPA, representing companies such as Sony Music Publishing, BMG Rights Management and Universal Music Publishing Group, claimed that the social network in question continues to profit heavily from the availability of unlicensed music, without paying the necessary copyright fees.
The purchase of Twitter by Elon Musk in October 2022 does not seem to have improved the situation in any way; it is clear that the internal affairs of the platform, with regard to issues relevant to the case at hand, are particularly confused.
