BBC Two's Forensics: The Real CSI is a new television programme dedicated to exploring the crucial role forensic science plays in bringing criminals to justice today. Recently, it illustrated how an advanced artificial intelligence software was instrumental in the conviction of Luke Cassidy, a Coventry paedophile.

Investigators said they struggled at first to find sufficient evidence to prove that the offender was monitoring and grooming young girls, but inside his phone they found deleted messages and photos that led to his conviction.

More specifically, the investigators explained that the specialist software used was trained on the words used in Cassidy's messages to the second of his victims, and then applied to search for similar language anywhere on the man's phone.
