The Frost is a 12-minute short film, made by Latent Cinema and Waymark, which features an important innovation: every shot in the film was generated by OpenAI's DALL-E 2 text-to-image model. The human hand still played its part, however, as the textual prompts had to be written and the quality and consistency of the style produced by the AI had to be checked from scene to scene.
Subsequently, the images produced by DALL-E were processed by D-ID, an AI service specialised in adding motion to static images.
The short film tells the story of a group of people unfortunate enough to be overwhelmed by rapid climate change, guilty of plunging planet Earth into an unprecedented glaciation.
