Japan recently declared that the use of datasets for training Artificial Intelligence models does not violate copyright law.

This means that those who develop the 'trainings' can collect publicly available data without having to seek licences or permission from the owners of the aforementioned data.

On one hand, the fact that the data can also be used against the wishes of the legitimate copyright owners is problematic from a rights protection perspective. On the other hand, Japan has explicitly given AI artists the green light, encouraging any creative exploration without the shadow of Copyright hanging over them.
