Smallville is a small 2D ludic environment used by researchers from Stanford and Google: through the use of ChatGPT, experts have generated 25 human-like characters, to then insert them within this fictitious city. The protagonists of this experiment are characterized by a sort of daily routine, including breakfast and interactions of various kinds between them.

The simulation, called "Interactive Simulacra of Human Behavior", consists of various steps: the researchers write a descriptive paragraph about a character and provide it to ChatGPT, which then completes the creation of the latter. After some time, the characters in the simulation have reached such a level of consciousness that they can create plans for the future, have ambitions.
